Elder Abuse Prevention

The elderly are often perceived to be weak and vulnerable, therefore making them targets for physical, emotional or financial abuse. Without intervention, abuse almost always escalates.  Elderly people are being abused every day, usually by loved ones, a person of trust and/or relatives. Because victims are often reluctant to report to authorities, an elderly person’s wellbeing may depend on you to recognize abuse and to report it. If an elderly person you know is being victimized, it is important for you to report it. Contact Community Policing at 250-561-3366 for more information or call the Elder Abuse Prevention line at 250-561-3013.
